The Great Plains are one of the largest grasslands in the world. It goes through Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, British Columbia, part of Canada, Montana, Alberta, and Sask.

The Great Plains it some 3,000 miles long and from 300-700 miles wide. It is also known as the Great American Desert because of its heat. It is very large and empty and it is filled yellow grass. This yellow grass is called "tallgrass" or "buffalo grass".
Biotic Features of the Great Plains

The great plains is filled with many biotic features. One of the main biotic features is grass. Zebras, horses, lions, antelope, wolfs, flowers, prairie dogs, thickets, bison, snakes, elephants, rhinos, ferret, hyena, giraffe, chickens, ostrich, pronghorns, and warthogs all thrive in the Great Plains.
Abiotic features of the Great Plains
Rocks, soil, sunlight, water, air, temperature, and light are all nonliving things things that are in the Great Plains. These abiotic features of the Great Plains are all importent for biotic features to survive.
Interdependent Relationships in the Great Plains
The plants rely on the sun, rain, and moon to grow. The animals rely on grass to and other animals to survive. Ashes from fire help new grass grow in a grassland. Many animals rely on interdependent relationships to survive in the great plains.
Threats

There are many threats to the Great Plains. One major threat to the Great Plains is pollution. Another is if an animal becomes extinct because of poaching, that could effect the food chain or food web. Sometimes people build factories or other buildings over the Great Plains which may cause pollution. When an animal eats too much grass in one area, then the Great Plains could become a desert. This is called desertafacation.
Ways to conserve the Great Plains
One way to help people conserve the Great Plains is to educate people on why it is important to keep the Great Plains and the animals in them alive. The Great Plains and the animals in them are protected by law, too. The Great Plains foundation is helping to keep the Great Plains alive by by planting grass seeds in empty places.
